World Cat Day, also known as Internation Cat Day, is celebrated throughout the world on August 08, 2014. It was founded in 2002 by the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) and other animal rights groups.

It is often called the housecat when kept as an indoor pet,[6] or simply the cat when there is no need to distinguish it from other felids and felines. Cats are often valued by humans for companionship, and their ability to hunt vermin and household pests.
